The Monitor Contraption

The monitor was orignally mounted horizontally mid-cab (bounced off a mirror), which is why the control panel and coin door are housed in the large compartment in the front.

In order to make the cab work as a general purpose machine I had to remount the monitor in a quasi-vertical position but I wanted one person to still be able to move the monitor out of the cab unassisted. So I had to design a movable, locking shelf to put it on (I used server rails and wheels riding on a 2x4 track to transfer the monitor's weight to the sides of the cabinet.

Finally, the conrol panel assembly had to be lowered (it originaly held positional guns so it was quite high) in order to make it comfortable for the average user.

Wiring

Everything is put to gether in true arcade style with Molex connectors. I was soooo tired of crimping pins by the time this was done but I am really happy with the results.

To spite the way a few of the photos look, the wiring is quite neat as that is an obsession of mine. The problem is that with the pull out drawer and moving monitor shelf, I had to leave quite a bit of slack in some of the wiring so that these components could be moved and still be connected. I have to find a way to deal with the slack, I was thinking of a lazy spring attached to the bottom of the monitor shelf to pull the slack up and out of the way.

The control panel is held down with standard clips. The second photo shows the sound and monitor controls located under the CP and accessed through the coin door.

All other components are mounted to the bottom of the cabinet in the drawer for easy access without pulling the whole unit away from the wall.

It lives!

That's about it I suppose. Eventually I will finish this room.

First, I need to stop playing though and finish the marquee and sideart as well as some other small details (trackball trim and some neon/plasma I wanted to put on the cab)
